“Early Years:
Born in Joliet, IL and raised in a small town an hour south of Chicago, Gardner, population 1200
Part time jobs in high school were at the local pharmacy and city hall in my hometown, where my dad was mayor of our town for 24 years, my parents were involved in local politics and owned a construction company
I have 2 sisters, and 1 brother
Attended college at Drake University in Des Moines, IA
Enrolled initially for the Pharmacy school then decided to change my major, graduated with Biology degree
My family:
I have one son, Ross, married to Rachael, they live in Omaha, NE
I mentored a young girl starting when she was 11 years old and eventually inherited her as my daughter, Lisbet, who is now married to Saul, they have 3 children, my grandchildren- Ruby, 15, Aydan, 13 and Mia, 6, they live in Des Moines
Work background:
I spent 17 years in the pharmaceutical industry based in Des Moines; started with Bristol-Myers Squibb, then worked at Abbott Labs and Novo Nordisk
The focus was on cardiovascular and diabetes medicine
Switched careers in 2010, to the nutritional ingredient industry; previously worked for Kemin, Frutarom and Aceto
Current company, Mibelle Biochemistry, based in Buchs, Switzerland, have an office in NJ
Work from my home office in Des Moines, regularly travel throughout the U.S.
Personal interests:
Love to travel for pleasure; tropical destinations preferred, read; fiction mostly, and spending time with my grandchildren
Previously involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters program and Project Connect volunteer programs.”
The real story about what it was like when she was a young woman whose direction was almost derailed when she got pregnant just before getting started in college is worth the listen. This one is good for so many lessons for everyone.
