This is a powerful episode for Building Fortunes Radio on basketballcoach.news. Here’s everything you need to roll out the red carpet for Coach Reggie Morris:

Welcome back to Building Fortunes Radio radio we are here on https://basketballcoach.news. I’m your host, Irvin Harris with Peter Mingils. Tonight, we’re building more than plays… we’re building perspective, legacy, and fortunes that last beyond the hardwood.

My guest tonight is a man who knows all about that. From the floor of Creighton University in the early to mid-80s, where he played under the legendary New York Knicks great Willis Reed, to the sidelines where he’s spent 35 years shaping young men and championship teams, please welcome Head Coach at Raytown South High School, Coach Reggie Morris.

Reggie’s resume speaks for itself:

Suburban Blue Conference Coach of the Year three years straight in 2017, 2018, 2019. District Coach of the Year those same three years. Kansas City Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2019. MBCA Missouri Class 4 Coach of the Year and NFHS Midwest Coach of the Year in 2019. And oh yeah… he led his Raytown South Cardinals to back-to-back Class 4 Boys Basketball State Championships in 2018 and 2019.

But here’s what makes this special for me: Reggie and I share more than a love for the game. We share a brother in Michael Johnson. I had the honor of playing with Michael at Omaha Central High School. Reggie suited up with Michael at Creighton. Tonight, it all comes full circle.

1. Coach Reggie Morris, welcome to Building Fortunes Radio. The mic is yours.

Questions asked of Coach Reggie Morris

Creighton & Playing Days

• You played at Creighton University for Willis Reed, an NBA legend and Hall of Famer. What’s the biggest lesson Coach Reed taught you that you still use with your players today? • You went from player to GA to Assistant Coach at Creighton from 1982 to 1994. How did that 12-year run shape your philosophy on building a program? • We both have a connection to Michael Johnson. What was Michael like as a teammate at Creighton, and what did you two learn from each other?

Coaching Journey & Championships

• 35 years of coaching across college and high school in Nebraska and Missouri. What’s the one thing that has not changed about coaching kids in 35 years? • 2017, 2018, 2019 were huge for you: Conference, District, Kansas City Coach of the Year honors. Then back-to-back state titles in 2018 and 2019. Walk us through the culture you built at Raytown South to make that run happen. • NFHS Midwest Coach of the Year in 2019. That’s recognizing impact beyond wins. What does ‘building fortunes’ mean to you when you look at your players 10 years after they leave you?

Leadership & Life Lessons

• You’ve coached in Nebraska and Missouri at the high school level. What’s the biggest difference in the kids, and what’s the biggest similarity? • You took over at Raytown South in 2021 and you’re still there 5 years later. What’s your vision for the next 5 years of Cardinals basketball? • For the young coach listening right now who wants to have the kind of run you’ve had, what’s the first fortune they need to invest in?

Personal & Full Circle Moments

• Omaha is home for me  you came to Omaha recruited D1 from Mississippi. How did growing up in Tupelo and then playing ball in Omaha at Creighton prepare you for everything that came after? • When you think about Willis Reed, Michael Johnson, and all the players you’ve coached… what’s the thread that connects them all?

“Coach Reggie Morris, I want to thank you. You didn’t just share Xs and Os tonight. You shared 35 years of wisdom, you honored Willis Reed, you honored our brother Michael Johnson, and you showed every listener what it means to build fortunes one player, one season, one life at a time.

From Creighton blue to Raytown South cardinal red, your impact is undeniable: championships, Coach of the Year honors across the board, and most importantly, young men who are better because you coached them.

To our Building Fortunes Radio family, if you took notes tonight, good. If you felt something tonight, even better. Because that’s what Coach Reggie Morris does… he makes you feel the game and the purpose behind it.

Coach, on behalf of basketballcoach.news and everyone listening, we salute you. The door is always open here. Keep building, keep leading, and keep turning boys into men of fortune.

I’m Irvin Harris, and this has been Building Fortunes Radio. We’ll see you next time right here where we build fortunes that last.
